Ocean Running Club weekend recap
The Ocean Running Club had a bustling start to April. To kick things off, many ORC members dedicated their time to volunteering instead of racing. We collaborated with our friends from the Jersey Shore Running Club to support the Runaplooza Marathon Relay. On Friday afternoon, a group of team members diligently placed directional arrows along the course for the runners. The following morning, our team showed up in full force to assist with registration check-in, set up the starting line, and man the water stops. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved for making the race kickoff possible.
After lending a hand, our members eagerly transitioned to their own races, hitting the pavement with fervor. In the Runaplooza Half Marathon, notable performances included Rick Lee finishing in 1:22, Tom Petrykiewicz in 1:41, and Kevin Stoneham in 2:08. Tamara Becker showcased her endurance by running legs 3 and 5 for her team in the relay marathon.
Venturing southward, Melane Flavin tackled the Salisbury Half Marathon, further down in DC, Chet Berghout participated in the Cherry Blossom 5K as a warm-up for Sunday’s 10 Miler.
Sunday saw more ORC members participating in various races. Sandy and Rudy Rinderer took on the challenge of the AC April Fools Half Marathon both placing 2nd in their age groups, while Chet Berghout tackled the DC Cherry Blossom 10 Miler, and Don Manfria raced in the Branch Brook Cherry Blossom 10 Miler.
Amidst the flurry of activities, ORC members also found time to indulge in a delightful community event. Many stopped by Miss Mindy’s Ice Cream on Saturday for a whimsical treat of “Ice Cream for Breakfast.”
