This past Sunday, a group of Ocean Running Club (ORC) members laced up their shoes and joined the Jersey Shore Running Club (JSRC) for the annual Train Run. The adventure began at Johnny Mac’s House of Spirits in Asbury Park, where participants gathered for check-in before heading to the Asbury Park Train Station to catch the 10:45 AM southbound train.
The event offers three fun, untimed distance options: 2 miles, 4 miles, and 6.5 miles. Despite the train running a few minutes behind schedule (luckily, no one was rushing to work!), spirits were high as we boarded and settled in for the short ride.
At the first stop, Bradley Beach, the 2-mile group disembarked and began their scenic journey back to Johnny Mac’s. Next up was Belmar, and finally, the train arrived at Spring Lake. The remaining runners hopped off, crossed the tracks, and started their run back to Asbury Park.
The route showcased the charm of New Jersey’s picturesque shore towns. From the quiet streets of Spring Lake to the expansive boardwalks along the ocean, runners enjoyed stunning views and festive photo opportunities—including Christmas trees on the beach and a quick stop to catch a tune from Trumpeter Dave.
Once back at Johnny Mac’s, runners celebrated their morning effort with a complimentary cocktail (or two!) before heading to TOAST for a well-deserved lunch. Some even took time to explore and shop around downtown Asbury Park.
If you’re looking to switch up your running routine and add some adventure, the Train Run is a must-try experience. A big thanks to the JSRC for organizing such a fun and unique event. Until next year—all aboard!
