On Saturday September 23, the inaugural Jones Beach Ironman took place. A misted a tropical cyclone that was spurred by the offshore hurricane, 2 of ORC outstanding triathletes were taking part in the event. Needless to say, the swim portion was reduced to .5 swim, the bike portion had some participants remaining in their wetsuits to brave the pelting rain and wind. Congratulations to Larry Perlberg and Laurie Perlberg both taking second place in respective age group.

September 24, 6 ORC triathletes, headed down to Augusta, Georgia for Iron Man 70.3.   The course lived up to its expectations, fast swim hilly, rollers, bike ride, and a hot run. Each had PR on the swim siting a point-to-point swim that started on South Carolina side 1.2 miles upstream swimming down and across the river to swim exit.  The bike was as described hills with rollers. As the group completed 2 of the 3 disciplines heading into the run air temperatures were already 90+ while they were in coarse hitting a high of 100 degrees.  The first finisher and youngest saying “I lost my soul on that run”  congratulations are in order Sandy Rinderer, second-place age group, Rudy Rinderer, 4th place age group the father, daughter team of Chet and Hannah Berghout Marty Poerner and Jim Welshman

Moving onto the fall running season AKA marathon time the second weekend of October had 2 marathons, the first Steamtown on Saturday. Jennifer Goodman, after coming of a spectacular Ironman Lake Placid run where she had maintained a 10-minute pace after her 112-mile bike back in July, had another amazing run and also placing 2nd in her age group and posting a qualifying time for Boston. Congrats to Jen.  On Sunday ORC members Robin Gialanella, Bob Hancock and Patrick Hancock all were finishers in the Chicago Marathon, also in attendance Rick Lee taking 2nd in age group.

Upcoming races include Seaside Half and 5K which puts our race up against Atlantic City race series, Marine Corps Marathon, New York Marathon and Philadelphia Marathon.  What race are you running, don’t forget to let us know and follow up with your results.
