If you’ve never volunteered at a race, it’s hard to grasp all the effort it takes. There are many moving parts and people involved, but it’s absolutely worth it in the end.
The 2024 Ocean Gate 5K, led by a new race director, saw tremendous support from Knight Fitness, the Ocean Running Club, the Town of Ocean Gate, the Sheriff’s department, and the local police. The neighborhood was incredibly accommodating. It’s so rewarding to give back—cheering on tired or overheated runners and offering encouragement was met with abundant gratitude. I also enjoyed watching the leaders come through.
