Thanksgiving Morning Run – A Heartwarming ORC Tradition
Before the turkey goes in the oven and the parade hits the screen, the Ocean Running Club gathers for one of our favorite traditions of the year — the Thanksgiving Morning Run!
Join us at 8:30 AM on Thanksgiving morning at the Island Heights Post Office for a relaxed and festive run along the quiet streets and scenic river views. It’s not a race — it’s about friends, fresh air, and a little pre-feast movement to make that second slice of pie taste even better.
Each year, runners show up bundled in layers, coffee cups in hand, sharing smiles and stories before setting off together. Some bring their favorite Thanksgiving treats — homemade desserts, donuts, and plenty of coffee to share after the run. The atmosphere is light, the laughter is easy, and the sense of community is strong.
Whether you’re logging a few miles before family time or just want to reconnect with your running friends, come join us. Bring your friends, your family, and maybe a treat or two — because Thanksgiving morning with ORC is all about gratitude, good company, and a reminder of how lucky we are to share the miles together.
This year’s run carries special meaning. The Ocean Running Club recently lost a beloved fixture of our running community — Tom DeBartolo. Tom has been part of every Thanksgiving morning run since the very first one, always showing up with a smile and a love for the sport that inspired everyone around him. We would like to dedicate this year’s run in his honor — a celebration of friendship, tradition, and the joy he brought to every mile.
See you Thanksgiving morning in Island Heights — the perfect way to start the holiday, and to remember one of our own.
