The last Sunday morning in June always feels a bit magical—and this year was no exception. It began with a stunning sunrise over the Toms River as Vista Park in Pine Beach came to life. Race Director Mindy D’Addario greeted volunteers and helpers from the Ocean Running Club with cheerful direction—because it was race day!
What many don’t see is the months of preparation that go into pulling off this event. Behind the scenes are countless meetings, phone calls, plans, and adjustments. From an outsider’s perspective, it may seem effortless—but those of us who’ve worn the race director hat know better!
As Pine Beach 5Ks go, the weather lived up to its usual reputation: hot and humid. But that didn’t stop 431 participants from showing up and showing out! The race featured 34 One-Mile runners, 13 competitors in the brand-new Ruck division, and over 400 runners in the 5K.
The results were impressive:
Fastest Male 5K: 16:06
Fastest Female 5K: 19:00
Youngest runner: 6 years old
Oldest and most beloved: Olie Nelson, age 89!
Mindy’s custom-designed race shirts were a hit—sure to be worn with pride—and the medals were equally awesome. The Newman family generously provided water at the course and finish line, along with refreshing watermelon slices. And to top it off, Miss Mindy’s girls scooped ice cream for the runners, making the day even sweeter.
The Ocean Running Club is truly lucky to have such dedicated, enthusiastic members who share their love for the sport and welcome everyone to join in.
Huge thanks to Mindy and her incredible crew for putting together another successful and memorable race!
