This was my first time running the Semper 5K, one of the larger 5Ks at the Jersey Shore with close to 1,000 starters. We couldn’t have asked for better conditions—low humidity, comfortable temps, and no real heat to contend with.

The course was great. We started with about a half-mile stretch down the boardwalk before turning around and heading south into Seaside Park. After a quick block on the street near D Street, the course brought us back onto the boardwalk for the final push north to the finish line near The Beachcomber.

What stood out most was the atmosphere. Seeing Marines in full gear at the start, along with so many veterans running, made the event really inspiring and meaningful.

It’s a little pricier than your average 5K, but worth it—not only for the experience but also the quality swag. This year’s race shirt was a Reebok quarter-zip, which was a nice upgrade from the usual tee.Overall, the Semper 5K is definitely one to put on the “must-run” list.
